After our short visit to Popayan, the real part of the road trip began. We headed towards the Zona Cafetero, which is as the name says the area in Colombia with all the coffee plantations. Nicely situated between Cali and Medellin, it was the perfect route on our way to my other part of the family in Medellin. The first night we stopped at my cousin’s Finca near lake Calima. It was a bit cloudy when we arrived in the evening, but the next morning was beautiful and we were amazed by the stunning views from the house. We continued on, having breakfast on the road along with the truck drivers, just like Mathias loves it :). We drove through the beautiful country full of coffee and fruit plantations left and right and came to Salento, another cute little colorful town. We of course visited a coffee farm where we learned everything there is to know about coffee in Colombia. And everywhere on the trip we saw stunning tropical birds all around us.
