The Marlborough Region

After our stormy Abel Tasman Coast track, one of the first things we checked was the weather forecast for the coming days. We couldn’t believe our eyes: 2 days of sunshine left on the South Island before the rain should start again. Perfect, we wanted to stay exactly these two days and explore the Marlborough region before taking the ferry to cross over to the North Island. And so we decided not to waste any time and headed towards Blenheim where we explored the Marlborough vineyards by bike. The region is especially famous for its Sauvignon Blanc. We tasted a fantastic 2013 one from the Cloudy Bay vineyard and (to our surprise) a very delicious 2012 Riesling from the Highfields vineyard. Both vineyards export to Germany, so look out for them in store. The next day we drove to and along the Marlborough Sounds at wonderful sunshine. We stopped at a small bay where the only people present were the couple working in the small coffee shop and us! Such a cute place with a stunning view from a small terrace overlooking the bay. This is were I discovered how to make great panorama pictures with our tablet, which now serves as our camera since the other one is officially broken ;). So be sure to click through the pictures in full view one by one and you will be able to see the first panorama pictures in bigger size. This finally comes closer to what we actually see here with our eyes. Wish I would have done that in Milford Sound already. Oh well, we learn everyday. :) From now on there will be more panorama pictures for sure. At the end of this sunny day we found a camping ground by the water and witnessed another beautiful sunset in New Zealand. Enjoy!
