Mendoza Wine Region

So Mendoza was our last wine region on our trip and we were really looking forward to it. We had three days here, after arriving early in the morning after an overnight bus ride from Santiago.  The first day we took it slow and only visited one vineyard that was recommended to us by a Swiss young couple in Chile. Bodega La Azul was really lovely, a very small authentic family estate with fantastic wine that we tasted in their beautiful garden. It was the perfect start to our time here. The next day, we took a break from wine and instead slept, walked around the city and had some Mate tea. On the third day, we decided to hire bikes to discover some more vineyards.  The vineyards we went to were all beautiful and of good quality, however we have to say cycling here was not as idyllic and fun as in New Zealand. I think here it is better to hire a car and just visit one or two vineyards a day. It is also difficult to go anywhere without a reservation, so the 2 vineyards we actually came to see (Chandon & Angelica Zapata) were booked out or you had to book an expensive tour. That part we did not like about Mendoza. Other than that, the vineyards were lovely. Especially Tierras Altas was very unique, as we could try wine from the tanks, the barrel and the bottles and the same Malbec at different temperatures. It was a real tasting, where you learned all the differences, big or small!
